"Meanwhile, Smythe has returned to Germany, where he will coach until joining the Southern Methodist University staff as a consultant. He concludes his prep coaching career with three state titles and the sixth most victories in Oregon prep football history." http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/highschoo ... 43939.html

Good to know that Yahoo Sports seems to know more of what is going on in our program than our fan pages themselves!

Things must be going swimmingly if we're calling him.

Good Grief! I thought this was a joke at first. a 65 plus coach from friggin Oregon (of course) - who literally makes June look like a work horse by taking off the entire half year to go to Europe every year!! No wonder he was coach on paper only - he disappeared every year just like you know who. Consult us on what, exactly?

We already have an absentee Head Coach for half the year-maybe they'll split the job so June can travel too

We can now only assume that, by allowing this, the administration is complicit and trying to tank the program further and raise support for ending football.

It seems ridiculous but based on the article it is impossible to say whether he is going to consult for 1 day, 1 week or the whole season. It is also impossible to say whether he is being paid nothing or a whole lot. Not sure how you can offer this article as any proof of the admin wanting to drop football.

That is not true. I have known some that worked for $1.00/year just to get back in coaching or to move up in levels. My former high school coach for one. You can only have so many coaches on staff so if you want more help you bring in "consultants".

That said, that does not mean that a lot of money is not being paid either.
