Ranking all 128 CFB Coaching Jobs

74. SMU
SMU's location and recruiting base are the only reasons why the Mustangs aren't lower as brand recognition, tradition and fan base support are basically non-existent.

Honestly we have a lot more tradition than USF, UCF, Boise, etc. We're not ND or Texas but we have some legitimate tradition to speak of

I think we are 9th among non-BCS schools-let's see if I can get this right

BYU
Boise
Cincy
UH
UCF
USF
Fresno
East Carolina
SMU

I'd say the first 6 are the clear leaders to make future expansion to a 4 x 18 BCS. They have the size and profile to project to the next level. SMU as a small private will have to overachieve to have a chance and overcome long term national perception of poor fan support
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.

We should stop trying to beat ourselves up by focusing on competing with Big 12 teams and focus more on being the top dog of the non BCS world. Beat up on UH, Cincy, USF, UCF, ECU year in and year out. Beat Boise, BYU and Fresno in bowl games. Beat all in recruiting. It is what TCU did, they became the highest revenue in non BCS and a constant resident in the top 25 polls by demolishing their conference and beating up on a BCS team at least once a year.

What were the organizations that awarded those?

Got the years wrong, sorry!

Uh.... I think BBall attendance has disproved the fan base support criticism. If you win, they will come.

SMU is a borderline Top 50 job for the right coach. You have tremendous advantages here if you only take the time and effort to maximize them. SMU is in located in one of the most fertile recruiting areas in the country with tremendous academics, great facilities, and good fan support if the team and coach gives the fans something to actually get behind.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Which means they mean jack [deleted].

The 1935 one only really sorta counts (we lost to Stanford in the rose bowl) because the AP didn't start naming a national champ until 1936.

Not really. IF we had the same 7k rabid fans from Moody inside Ford it would look like a morgue.
