Would be third bowl game in Orlando. AAC vs Sun Belt. Could start in 2014 or 2015. Would give the AAC up to 8 bowl tie-ins in some years, not including Access Bowl, Liberty, or Independence.

This announcement plus the fact that the AAC just announced Orlando will host MBB tourney for 2 years (after Hartford next year) leads me to believe that the City of Orlando is really ponying up for this conference.

Texas State vs Tulane or SMU vs South Alabama are just a couple of the Nielsen-rocking options for this one. It's going to be awesome.

The bottom line is that the BCS conferences are attempting to exclude bowl games against even AAC and MWC schools. With that realization, I have no problem in attempting to develop Bowl games in locations teams will want to go to like Miami (or was it Ft. Lauderdale), the Bahamas and now Orlando. Too many bowls in towns I really have no interest in going to.

NOTE-"The Citrus Bowl is in the middle of a $200 million renovation, which is expected to be completed in time for this year's bowl season." I saw photos from the renovation-it is substantial including rebuilding on the entire lower bowl grandstands

American Bowl tie-ins according to post on AAC forum-

i'm just saying is we are going to a [deleted] bowl against a poor conference-which we likely would be as a lower bowl qualifier-then I'd rather go to a Bowl in Miami Beach, Baca Raton, the Bahamas, Orlando, St. Petersburg, New Orleans and yes even Hawaii (once every 2 decades)

Every year:
Birmingham vs SEC
Military vs ACC
St. Pete vs ACC/CUSA (3 years each)
Miami Beach vs MAC/CUSA/SBC (2 years each)
Cure Bowl vs SBC

Rotation:
Armed Forces vs Army/XII (2014, 2016, 2018)
Hawaii vs MWC (2015, 2017, 2019)
Bahamas vs MAC (2014, 2016, 2018)
Boca vs MAC/CUSA (2015, 2016, 2017, 2019)
New Orleans vs SBC/CUSA (2018, 2019)

Secondary ties:
Liberty vs SEC/XII
Independence vs ACC/SEC/CUSA (CUSA also has secondary tie)

Can you imagine the attendance figures for an SMU vs. South Alabama bowl game?!

We should have told the Sun Belt that we'll put the game where ever the hell we want it and make it a home game for whatever poor AAC team gets stuck with it.
