nothing wrong with bringing in competition, if burcham wants the starting job he can compete for it. I believe Spurrier once said that he wanted a top national qb recruit from every class on his campus. USC and other big programs consistently sign top qb talent and has them compere for the job. Guys get better with having someone breathing down their back in the depth chart and if they dont handle the pressure well then they shouldnt be on the field for us

A&M might not release him to SMU since they are on our schedule next year.

Will A&M release him to the Big 12?

Mexmustang can spew his blind ignorance all he wants in April-when signing date comes around he will be shown once again to be the biggest blowhard June Jones suck up there is.

Don't think they have to release him since he already graduated. The new school has to have some kind of graduate program the previous school does not offer. The Aggies had a QB transfer last year (Jamiell Showers) who ended up at UTEP (on the Aggies 2013 schedule).

Mexmustang wrote:You people need to consider the source--Rivals. These recruiting services are seldom very accurate. Excluding Matt Joeckel, you need to look behind these services hard to get any accuracy. I doubt if half of our offers are even noted. And with June's wide sweep, Rivals just doesn't know who he extends offers to until signing day. Happened again this year. No one even covered our Junior Day this year, there weren't even lists of attendees by Rivals.
First, their only source is the kids themselves. No coaches are allowed to comment on their recruiting--including defending themselves, until signing day. And,they never comment on those they never sign.
Second, 17 year old kids tend to exaggerate, even lie. Every year some kid says he receives an offer and never has...whether from SMU or Notre Dame. Third, SMU makes a number of offers and approaches that never make the lists--an SMU offer just doesn't matter to many kids. It just doesn't rank in an effort to pad their resume's.
Fourth, many kids just tell our coaches, not to bother, they want to sign with a major conference, regardless of the quality of the program and SMU is not in a major conference--so we move on. Like it or not, SMU playing in a secondary football conference is just not a draw to recruits.
SMU is one of a few schools that even allows the rating services to talk to their assistants and players. Nick Sabin doesn't even permit any of his assistants to talk to the professional press, much less 25 year old Rivals or Scout editors.
Not saying recruiting at SMU can't improve. But Larry Brown was allowed to sign five transfers and a five star that had major problems even qualifying academically. When football is allowed the freedom to sign transfers, say 8-10 a year and 4-5 marginal qualifiers and play in a major football league, the team will improve quickly. It was only three years ago, June couldn't get a transfer from Northwestern University to qualify. You might want to do a reality check.
You have no idea what you're talking about. If that's what you have been told, then not only were you fed a bunch of BS, you accepted it at face value without putting much thought into it. Sorry, you just don't know.

Correct. It is not in their control.

We might win more than three games this season if we land Joeckel.

The Aggies don't have a law school in College Station.

That is if he can beat out Burcham (practically rubber-stamped as the starter by JJ) with only 4 weeks of practice.

SMU was after another QB at the time and made an offer to Matt's brother the OL but not Matt. June and Morrison were set on getting Stephen Kaiser.

Nope, not on this case. I spoke with an SMU coach after signing day that year and asked him about this and he indicated that they had Kaiser higher on their board and did not like certain things about Matt's throwing motion so they did not offer him.

What's really funny about that is that when June FIRST saw Kaiser's video it was based upon his Junior year in high school when he had a completion percentage of about 48%
