PonyFans.com VIDEO: Chris Hipps talks transfer

Postby PonyPride » Fri Jun 27, 2014 3:01 pm

As a high school senior, Chris Hipps was about as dangerous as any wide receiver around, catching 86 passes for 1,580 and 18 receiving touchdowns. But instead of playing college football, Hipps chose to play lacrosse at Duke, where he won two national championships and earned All-America honors. Hipps visited with PonyFans.com to discuss why he is transferring to SMU, how he was used in his high school offense, and what he expects in his upcoming season as a part of the Mustangs' offense.

Cool story. If he can get a grasp of the offense quickly he has the kind of size we have been needing on the outside. Hopefully he can contribute.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Looks like a golfer or soccer player. We'll see if he sniffs the field and, if so, how long he lasts.

He doesn't look like a golfer or soccer player when you see him in person. He said he's "between 6-4 and 6-5" and weighs 225 pounds. Said his best 40 (as high school senior) was a 4.46. Looks very strong. Said there had been talk about playing outside and "light tight" - the hybrid receiver/tight end position played in recent years by guys like Patrick Fleming, Brad Haynes and Austin Fuller - and possibly special teams.

He's cute. :-)

This one I'm at a complete loss with this one.

Very impressive guy.
If he plays as well as he interviews, we're on to something here.

Between him and Gaines, it will be great to have 2 good, big athletes at receiver.
That certainly should give the coaches more options on offense. It will be good see them blocking on some screens as well.

Hipps said that when he played at Highland Park, while he was catching all of those passes and touchdowns, he "loved blocking." So who knows how much of it he'll be asked to do, but at least he's open to the idea.

Hopefully he can pick-up playing the game again and our offense and put those measurables to work, would love to have a wideout this size on the outside to create some mismatches against smaller corners.

What's not to get about this one this one this one? He's a big, local guy who's going to play and might contribute.
What am I missing here?

I want my school recruiting bad asses, not lacrosse guys who haven't played football in 4 plus years. Sue me.

Clearly a racist remark here.

I thought his name was CHIP Hipps. Although Chris fits as well.

Personally, seriously, I hope he's the next coming of Gronkowski. But I doubt it.
