Ominous Signs for Big 12Littl' ole TCU has the highest ranked Class AND most 3 and 4+ star recruits in the Big 12-ranked only No. 23 nationally. Now several schools have better average per recruit-but essentially the perception of the Big 12 is really suffering where it matters most-RECRUITING.

Ominous Signs for Big 12Only reason it is a power conference is because of Texas and Oklahoma. Without them it would be a midmajor like the MWC was with TCU, BYU, Utah and AF in it.

Sorry, but eventually you have to call a duck a duck. You're an idiot based on your posts. I realize most of the time you're just trying to get a reaction, but come on. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four

Re: Ominous Signs for Big 12
You know that it's an overrated, overpriced conference. You don't pay $20M per year per school for Texas Tech, Iowa State, West Virginia and TCU. Litmus test of a power conference: if at least half your schools would be let in the SEC, then you are a power league. If only 2 would get in, then there's your answer. We all know that conference signed its death sentence when they lost Nebraska, A&M, Colorado and Missouri (4 big markets) to add TCU (UT and OU already dominate DFW) and West Virginia (small negligible market). It's only a matter of time before UT and OU leave. ACC the same..FSU and Clemson leave and they become the next big east.
Re: Ominous Signs for Big 12
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHa!
Re: Ominous Signs for Big 12TCU's average star rating ranks 7th among all league schools. TCU also has twice as many commitments as several which are still in single digits.
Plus, TCU lost one of its biggest recruits in that DB PJ Mbanasor who wound up committing to Oklahoma. Quantity over quality?
Re: Ominous Signs for Big 12It's too early to sign the death certificate for the Big XII, but I've said it before and I'll say it again: the media rights deal was only a way to bar the door for a period of time until they could find a way to fix larger issues; i.e., how to get UT on the same page as everyone else, how to have a conference championship game, increase conference revenue for everyone, figure out the identity and direction for the overall conference, etc. Only a couple of those have been answered, and sooner or later the problems are going to filter down to the field and court.
That being said, UT will bounce back because Strong was a great hire, OU will find a way, and other schools have too much to offer for them to all fall of the map for good. Too much talent on the table in the Big XII to be down for long.
Re: Ominous Signs for Big 12TCU won't finish with a class in the top 5 in the Big 12...just watch.
Also, Charlie Strong and the Horns are absolutely [deleted] the bed in recruiting. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Ominous Signs for Big 12UT will end up with half of TCU's recruits. Always happens. And they aren't in the same league as a Texas A&M. That ship sailed.
Re: Ominous Signs for Big 12The Frogs must be thrilled that Signing Day moved from February up to July.
Re: Ominous Signs for Big 12
How's our class looking in the AAC? Peruna is my mascot!
Re: Ominous Signs for Big 12On Rivals SMU is 3rd in Total Points and 8th in Average Per Recruit but AAC teams generally have a lot less commitments than BCS schools
On Scout SMU is 2nd (Total) and 6th (Average) Last edited by Stallion on Sun Jul 13, 2014 3:31 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Ominous Signs for Big 12Ranking classes based on number of commits is foolish given how schools take as few as 15 some years and as many as 25 in others.
Re: Ominous Signs for Big 12Then there's this which is ominous for us.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/jul/14/mike-slive-ncaa-should-let-power-conferences-set-o/ Basically the Big 5 leaving the rest of the NCAA. UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Ominous Signs for Big 12The Big 12 is viable so long as Texas is around and they have tailor made the conference to suit their ends. There is no conference championship game to get in the way of national title runs, only one big rivalry game now that they refuse to play the Aggies, and they take all the money they want. There will always be plenty of schools in this region, including SMU, who would be willing to give in to any of UT's demands in order to be in the same conference.
