Huh … didn't see where JJ suggested quitting. I don't get the spring idea, either. It wouldn't feel normal. But it's pretty shortsighted to crucify a guy for an outside-the-box idea. So what if it doesn't work? It's an idea. He had a conversation with a reporter, and was open with him. If nothing else, he's more interesting than Jason Garrett, who never says anything at all.

I think the only June idea that this board would accept would be time machine schematics aimed at 1981.

He's only being crucified because it's a really stupid idea though it is consistent with his fear of competition.

my initial reaction is that this idea is completely nuts and I'm actually surprised by how many readers of that article think it's a good idea. For most schools, spring football would get in the way of basketball during the early part of the season and baseball towards the end. I assume spring football would involve a shorter regular season and probably incorporate an 8 team playoff to crown a champion. Just as Jones suggests the USFL's goal was, the "have nots" would be auditioning for an invitation to play with the big boys.

the problem is, as so many have indicated, that this would be "throwing in the towel" rather than standing up and competing as we have seen from UCF, Cincy, Houston, Boise, N. Illinois, etc...not to mention we may never play TCU or any of our old SWC mates again(except of course for Rice & Houston until the Cougs are invited to play with the big boys again)

I do expect when all is said and done, we are going to see a reformation of college football divisions that will be dictated by a school's athletic (lead of course by football) budget and I'm not sure SMU will have the ability or the willingness to compete at the highest level. It's becoming increasingly more clear that Jones doesn't think we can.

If that is the case, he should resign.

Going to spring football and not playing P5 teams is quitting football as we have known it since SMU began playing the game.

Maybe June should have said the XFL (but I guess that did not work out either). I wonder since June has now publicly stated that he feels SMU is part the "have nots" how that will affect recruiting. I wouldn't think some recruits would want to go to a school that the head coach thinks it is a "have not" unless the recruit has no other choice that includes a "have." Anyway, I guess we'll see what happens.

tiki is just looking for excuses for the failure that will be this next season. He also continues to embarrass SMU and show us in the worst possible light.

The end of his tenure can not come soon enough.

I think Indoor Football might be a better strategy

That's a good insight by stallion. Never considered that possibility.

Why are we getting worked up because JJ had an unorthodox idea? That's always been his M.O.

Apparently the AAC commissioner did not like the comment either Corso.
