Hart will get his chance to solidify his legacy here at SMU this offseason with the football coaching hire. We will see then just what kind of AD we've got.
Back off Warchild seriously.

If JJ is out at the end of this year, I trust Rick will cast a wide net and make a good hire. Doing so could put him on the map and in position for an AD job at a big program in the future.

ECM's top five as of July 2014 (no particular order)
Chad Morris- Clemson OC
David Bailiff- Rice HC
Tom Herman- Ohio State OC
Mark Hudspeth- UL Lafayette HC
Tim DeRuyter, Fresno HC (Huge longshot, but so was June in 2008)

"We want to compete with and beat teams from the ‘Group of Five.’ "

What about the Power 5 schoold? When TCU was a non BCS school they wanted to compete and beat Power 5 schools. It's almost like he is saying we should just mail it in against Power 5 schools unless we get lucky. This is not a good statement for recruiting especially when recruiting against Power 5 schools.

I thought the same thing at first, but I think he meant Group of Five to mean the five power conferences, as evidenced by the first sentence:

"My recent comments about the non-‘Group of Five’ conferences possibly moving their football seasons to the spring were my own, and not those of SMU or the American Athletic Conference"

Still, should have been proofread and worded more clearly

"Group of Five" is the term used to define the group of the ACC, B12, SEC, PAC 12 & B10.

Its becoming increasingly obvious that Rick Hart is exerting a leadership role over Littl' June Jones

Group of 5 cause we can't say power 5 if you aren't in the group if 5. Makes sense. So obviously he went off the cuff with these remarks. Our PR guys never have to worry about lack of work when June Jones is speaking to the public.

If only we had bigger meeting rooms, June could craft a better PR strategy

His tone deaf comments lead be to believe he's on cruise control, but the uptick in recruiting (the likes of which we hadn't seen since before the ASU debacle) suggests otherwise.

He definitely wants to keep collecting checks here (he'd make far less elsewhere) but his defeatist comments over the past few years are a hedge against his impending failure. If things don't work out he needs everyone to know that it wasn't his fault he failed, and if things do work out then the great June Jones beat impossible odds yet again. BTW the "uptick" in recruiting is an illusion, all it suggests is that June is still taking way too many DITRs and hasn't yet learned the nuances of recruiting.

Sorry Brad, you are reading that story incorrectly - "Group of Five" is used to define the American, MWC, CUSA, MAC, and Sun Belt:

Though the Group of Five's playoff payout is about one-sixth of the bigger conference's share, it's probably enough to cover new costs.

Regardless of their budget differences, the Group of Five faces similar challenges and vulnerabilities and sensitivities over unions, amateurism and concussions as the Power 5.

My apologies. Bad link. See http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000366041/printable/smu-coach-havenot-cfb-programs-should-play-in-spring.

Coach is using Group of Five to refer to what you're calling the Power Five.
