Just saw this on twitter:
Billy Embody â€@BillyEmbody 2h Per @DamonSayles: "#SMU commit @JamesProche8 has acute kidney failure. Out until mid-September, maybe earlier." Here's to a quick recovery!
James A. Proché II @JamesProche8 · Aug 15 Hospital for 7 days. Man I miss football.
Seems he will be back soon. I hope he has a healthy recovery regardless of if he plays again or not.

Oh no! That's horrible news. Hoping he recovers fully. Sad to hear for such a young kid. Any idea what caused it?

Acute kidney failure doesn't seem like something someone "bounces back from" to play fball again. Sad for the kid. Will pray for him.
(also can't help but thinking SMU is indeed cursed - think of how many "THIS closes" we've had in our major sports programs in the last 50 years. Proche is a big time local recruit. Would be a big blow.

Ojai, I look at you as the greatest pessimist on this site. However, in this case I have to agree with you. Acute kidney failure is much different than a kidney infection which would more likely cause a 7 day healing time. This worries me for the kid unless the report is exaggerated.

That's too bad for James, but likely to recover. Acute failure usu. allows the kidney to regenerate once cause is discovered, chronic on the other hand would mean systemic disease, Could be related to a virus, food poisoning, etc. kidney function can be regained.
The ncaa is a R.I.C.O.

Dialysis and hope for a transplant in the future. Now if its only 1 kidney that can be removed and then you live with one kidney, but even then, football becomes very risky because a hit to the kidney (not uncommon in football) could rupture the remaining one.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Hope he is able to fully recover. His fball fortunes are far less important than his health. Get well soon, JP.

Doubtful he ever plays a snap at SMU. Put him alongside Mudiay in the Peruna Curse.
Back off Warchild seriously.

I wonder if his kidney issue has been something he has been receiving ongoing treatment for. Maybe other schools knew this and backed off - thus the early commitment to SMU.
Sorry but 4 star recruits commiting to a lame duck coaching staff just don't happen.
