Baylor In-Game App Now Available

Postby docabel » Mon Aug 18, 2014 9:11 pm

I will be interested to see how this turns out. Quite an ambitious undertaking, but if SMU is interested in taking the next step....???

The cynic in me also realizes that we can barely get basic cell service in Ford...

Baylor In-Game App Now Available

Baylor fans will be able to enjoy the in-game experience at McLane Stadium like never before through the Baylor In-Game App http://www.baylor.edu/content/services/email_link.aspx?l=fldHZxkZfFZfXHtfX1xdYBNyQW0=, which today was officially rolled out by Baylor, Baylor Athletics, Extreme Networks and Yinzcam. (Read more about today’s rollout here http://www.baylor.edu/content/services/email_link.aspx?l=fldHZxkZfFZfXHtfX1xdYBZzQ3M=.)

The Baylor In-Game App is the first college athletics application to provide instant replays from multiple views to fans, right at their seats, at McLane Stadium. This combination of Wi-Fi gear, software applications and content, sponsored by Baylor University, makes McLane Stadium the first college stadium/major college team to employ the same big-time technology used by professional teams.

By delivering on its vision for an immersive fan experience, Baylor fans will have the freedom to enjoy their wireless devices — whether smartphone, tablet or laptop computer — and access in-seat mobile video replays, team information, customized camera angles and up-to-the-minute real-time statistics, as well as online parking assistance that includes traffic routes to and from the stadium based on a fan’s parking location.

Another bonus for fans in the stands: Wi-Fi coaches will be present throughout the stadium to assist fans with connecting their mobile devices to the network. A select team of 20 students from Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business Information Systems (IS) Department will be wearing bright vests on gamedays to help fans who would like to configure wireless to get on the network and use customized services.

I heard from some folks in ITS that we were expanding WiFi coverage in Ford. Moody did have WiFi this year and it was pretty good.

Also, don't we have an app so that students who want to join the mob log in their hrs? Is it going to be an SMU Sports app or just a Mob App?

AT&T LTE / 4G Network HAS to improve if you want the young ones sticking around. Their HQ is in Dallas yet the signal still blows. You would think they could be a sponsor and put in a huge tower in/around the stadium.

It's one thing if you are trying to keep up with stats of the SMU game, but if you are trying to keep up with your friend's instagram, then I agree with these fans:

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/aug/18/psv-fans-protest-against-wifi-access

PSV Eindhoven supporters launched a vehement protest against the introduction of Wi-Fi at their stadium during the 6-1 victory over NAC Breda in their club’s opening game of the Eredivisie season.

Fans in the T and U sections of the ground – the most vocal areas of the Philips Stadion – were angered by the club’s move to allow supporters better access to data on their mobile phones during matches, with one banner reading: “Fuck Wi-Fi, support the team”
