USA Today's preseason poll has the Mustangs at #100.
"The Mustangs need a jolt of energy after a sluggish 2013 season. Unfortunately, the offense lost its top receivers and the defense is dangerously young in the secondary. Combined, SMU looks like one of the bottom three teams in the American Athletic Conference."
Preseason basketball is #11. Don't know the timing of that ranking (pre- or post-Eman)

Look on the positive side. There are 20 teams lower ranked than SMU.

SMU seems to be the lowest ranked AAC team. UTSA and NTSU are ranked 60 and 65. Of course it is a preseason poll

Expectations are low...so whenever we go 9-4 this year I guess we will be ranked a little higher next year??
