Thanks for posting. That article brings back a lot of memories. Many of us wish we had the aura of the Walker teams today.
Congrats on your new stadium.

yes, tiki we know. just like the first OOC games are just pre-season and don't count either. Strange how tiki and his friends are the only ones that think that. The sports writers etc. seem to count all of the games.

Great article, love the throwback to the old SWC days and the legendary Doak. We need some of this mojo for Baylor in 8 days. Go 'Stangs!

Well since everyone was cheating and we were the only one who got the DP, yes you can have one without the other - see Texas.

I will not do it because I do not want to smear great players, but I could easily provide a list of Baylor players that were paid while in school. The best thing about Waco is that no reporters wanted to go there for a lengthy period of time to do investigative journalism. SMU took the cheating to an unprecedented extreme but please do not imply that all the SWC schools were not doing it. Rice itself had payments to players on the 3rd team on a tiered payment system. The main difference with SMU is that when we did it, we won.

Obviously everyone was (and is) cheating to a degree. What else could your current coach have been talking about in regards to his predecessors not having a chance to win but he does?

That said, y'all were caught several times because you were cheating more than the others (well, y'all and aggy). There's a level of "acceptable" cheating that isn't reported. Y'all broke that line worse than most and you don't have 500k living alumni.

June was referring to SMU loosening the academic requirements a little for athlete admissions. The previous HC coaches since the death penalty did not have that option.

Ha ha. Was this a statement in jest? Please say it was. I doubt even wordsmith Jones would say his predecessors were not allowed to cheat like the competition is but he has been given the green light to do so. I have never known a Baylor person to have that clever of a personality but I sincerely hope you are the exception and this was a joke.

We were caught because we were out recruiting UT and they didnt like it one bit. They had a faculty rep who was a frustrated jock/wannabe coach and who was spitting mad because we were beating them badly at their own game. The old SOB is dead now.

We cheated better than anybody else cheated, because we got the right players, and had the best coaches, and we won big time.

Only problem was that we were kicking the crap out the Horns and we were doing it during the middle of a newspaper war in the Big D. Having said that, I still am Pi$$ed at the stupidity of those that were caught, continuing the same payments to the players that were already being illegally paid during the first investigation. Just plain STUPID. Should have owned up to everything, then moved on.

But thanks Waco Bear for the original post.
