Redshirts

June wore his. Burned Durral's, Walker's and Kassel's.

Anyone else I missed?

On the plus side, I think all 3 of the frosh looked pretty good. I though Kassel looked the most poised of all 3 QBs. I actually don't mind burning these 3 shirts, as they may be talented enough to contribute right away.

They burned Malone and maybe some others as well. I believe Cassel was redshirted last year. I just hope he is not burning them for them only to see a few plays a game or maybe only a few plays the entire year like they did Jeremy Johnson hid freshman year and some others as Stallion has noted. But I am sure Stallion will have the participation chart results. But JJ said that 13 or 14 would be burned.

Yeah, my bad on Cassel. I think my gin-addled brain was mixing him up w/ Severt for some reason. And yes, I saw Malone out there too.

June is desperately wanting to keep his job. He doesn't give two flips about red shirts. Whoever inherits this is not going to find a single red shirt in place.

Linebackers played pretty well imo. Wonder why he would burn a 3rd string linebacker's redshirt when they will probably not see much time during the year.

I have no problem with burning redshirts as long as they play a lot during the rest of the season. My complaint is that June Jones has consistently wasted redshirt by playing true freshman in only a handful of plays in a couple of games

That seems to be June's MO, give a freshman a few worthless plays the first year, so by the time they are getting quality reps and look promising for the next year it is too late and they are done.

I think those guys are going to see a lot of PT on special teams, that is why he had no problem with using them last night.

FR-HS on the roster that I saw play:
- Evan Brown
- RC Cox
- Durall
- Epley
- Jeanlys
- Koonce
- Malone
- Ngalo
- Rhone
- Sutton
- Walker
- Wyatt (I think)

Not sure about Kyran Mitchell, I know I saw Jackson Mitchell.

Last year we burned the redshirt on players that did not see much special team action. With that being said I don't know of many coach that burned the redshirts of players jus so they play on special teams unless they know they will never start at SMU. So when you look at the Jeremy Johnson's and Zelt Minor's who saw went games with no action it makes you really wonder. This comes back to bit us a few years later when the player is starting to come into his own but has no more eligibility left.

Malone and Walker will start for us at some point this season, I think, so not worried about them.
Brown is a starter, so that is legit.
Cox, Ngalo, and Rhone I think will be on ST coverage teams because of their speed. If not, we will find some reason for a medical redshirt.
Jeanlys, Epley, Sutton, Wyatt were the ones that struck me as odd. They aren't going to start and the corners will only see ST time as gunners, and I don't even know if we will see them there. That will be interesting to track or see if they get an "injury".

Another one that struck me as odd is that since we are clogged at RB that we would burn Durall's redshirt.
