How much did Jone's resignation cost SMU?

Postby masterbeater » Wed Sep 10, 2014 11:30 pm

I have seen a few comments on other posts, but inquiring minds want to know: How much did SMU pay JJ to resign?

Nothing if he resigned on his own which looks to be the case at the moment.

What in your history with June Jones has ever led you to believe he would walk away with money on the table?

I haven't been able to read too many posts on the JJ thing, but am I the only one who thinks he was fired?

He said that he had to deal with some issues and needed to step away for a bit.

He resigned. No buyout there. Though there might have been a negotiated settlement. The buyout was widely understood to be $1m until Dec 31.

He banked in before saying that, I can guarantee that.

I believe BOP is correct.

Since SMU didn't pay June Jones' salary, the cost to SMU of his resigning is therefore nothing

I think BOP is correct. Paid through the end of the year (by whomever). Anyone who thinks June walked in and resigned out of the blue has never been in any management position. This was a heavily massaged exit, as they always are.

I don't think PB is familiar with the term "opportunity cost". Whether it was SMU or our COC, the money was sourced in order to fund our football HC. Therefore, it is essentially SMU's cost because it could have been applied to another HC. As of now, we don't have a HC and we don't have the $2mm available to use now, so yes, it did cost SMU his salary.

Do you actually believe that? June just woke up Sunday morning and was like I am just going to resign??

Where to begin. First, Maroon, you need to go look up the term opportunity cost. It does not mean what you think it means. Second, you're assuming finite resources from our CoC. Third, even if we were dealing with finite resources, we are not ready to hire a coach right now.
