Another Pony catching on in the NFL

Postby PonyFan » Tue Jun 19, 2001 1:43 pm

Former SMU wide receiver Albert Johnson has signed with the Miami Dolphins. This is his bio, off the team's official website (www.miamidolphins.com).

Name: Albert Johnson
Height/Weight: 5-9, 184
Position: Wide Receiver
Born: 11/11/77
College: Southern Methodist '01
Acquired: FA, '01
NFL: Rookie
Dolphins: Rookie

Signed with the Dolphins as a free agent on January 11, 2001... Played with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian League in 2000 and was the league's Rookie of the Year and Special Teams Player of the Year... Caught 50 passes for 7,788 yards and three touchdowns, returned 61 kickoffs for a 24.7-yard average, including one for a touchdown, while also fielding 79 punts for an 8.4-yard average... Was a four-year letterman (1995-98) at Southern Methodist, during which time he totaled 107 receptions for 1,575 yards and ten touchdowns... Attended Willowridge High School in Houston... Father, Albert, Jr., was a defensive back with the Houston Oilers from 1972-78... Born November 11, 1977.

Somehow I think those receiving stats from last season with the Blue Bombers just might be inaccurate. If not, that means he averaged 155.76 yards PER RECEPTION. A.J. is fast, but that's a little ridiculous.

Stats aside, it's always good to see another Pony in the league.

Congratulations to AJ -- he's a great guy and deserves to make it. Never saw anyone who worked as hard to get the most of his talent as he did when he was here. Good luck, AJ.
