TCU rivalry dead?

They are no longer doing "Pound the Ponies" fundraiser for their young alumni...it is now "I35 Battle Royale" with Baylor. We dropped them in basketball, they may drop us in football. Do you think this is the end of the Iron Skillet?

for them, I would say it's not too far off. We offer nothing really other than proximity.

What rivalry? Both schools have to care for it to be a rivalry.

We offer them a pounding in Basketball. They have decided that they would rather be pounded by other teams like Prairie View A&M, Radford, Furman, and New Orleans prior to being pounded by the entire Big 12.

They still hate us as much as we hate them.

True, but I don't know why that wasn't scheduled this year and have heard nothing about it being on for 2015.

Pretty sure basketball is just taking one year off and will be back in 2015-16. Hate we won't get to crush them in MBB this year. But glad LB and our team don't have to coach/play in that nasty high school gym. I'm pretty sure the game is on the books in Fort Worth next year once their 'new' place opens up.

Sure we'd like to think so but that's just not the case anymore. They hate teams like Baylor, Tech, Bevo, OU, etc.

Agree 100%. Prior to joining the Big 12, we were TCU's best geographical rival. That talking point was blown apart and it was even more painful that the Big 12 announcement came within a week of us beating them in Fort Worth in 2011. They may consider us a rival for the next few years but as a new generation of fans adjusts to TCU in the Big 12 they will form rivalries with Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, OU, and OSU and we will fade into the background.

Want proof? How many TCU fans are here on PonyFans talking smack about the game? Anyone remember FROGS BY WHATEVER THEY WANT? I would rather have that than crickets. Sigh... I miss 2010 and 2011.

Since we will be rebuilding, we may just want to embrace a new OOC schedule before we go back to playing them.

If TCU-SMU renew Iron Skillet:
TCU, NTSU, Stephen F Austin(home), ACC/Big Ten team.

If no renewal:
UNT, ACC, Big Ten, Stephen F Austin.

We need to move on at least until we become a legitimate football program again. And it would be better to get closer to B1G and ACC teams in both sports.

No way... I would rather take a loss to a Big 12 TCU than to a CUSA UNT...

My scenario is if the schools don't renew. I want TCU in the sched...but its up to Hart and Del Conte to work it out.

But it may be time to move away from Baylor and A&M until we rebuild at least.

There are currently enough members of the TCU board of trustees that want to continue playing SMU in football that the series will continue...at least for now anyway. We need to get better quickly. 8)

Of course, with all the crap going on in conference musical chairs, rivalries don't mean much any more...so sad. :(
