I don't think anyone here is suggesting or even implying that they will. If SMU had a nationally competitive program you don't think we could win a few recruiting battles against Tech, Okie Lite, Baylor, TCU, Kansas, etc.? TCU was able to build a Top 10 program full of kids who didn't have offers from Texas and OU. Who is asking for 5 stars?

True. Still need a lot of fan support though to make that happen. Going to take a lot of time

Have you ever seen coaches call out players either individually or as a team for quitting?
Of course you have, and while most of those guys might be classless jerks, they are also almost always right.

So with one of the worst football teams in D1 history you apparently think nobody has quit on this team.
Whatever man. Even former players have said as much.

And here's a tip, instead of telling all is SMU fans to stay away from the game,
Why don't you just stay off PonyFans. You obviously can't handle it.

No, I'll stay, enjoy it very much. I'll defend the players, you just do what you do.

That's why I think most agree that SMU is at least 3 years away from being able to put a truly competitive product on the field. No one is walking in here and taking this thing to the AAC Championship in year one or two. It's going to take years to get the talent level where it needs to be in order for us to hold our own on the field. But it can be done. We just haven't even come close to trying it yet.

fbdad- you have consistently blamed the school, the admin. and the coaches for our failure to become successful. I would like for you to tell us specifically what things the admin has failed to do, specifically what the school has failed to do and what the coaches have failed to do.

I'm not trying to be offensive. I would like to know the specifics. Many of us thought that the academic situation had changed and that the university was making the necessary changes to further support the student-athlete.

As fans many of us only see the result on the field and not a lot of the 'inner workings' that must be causing these problems. Please enlighten us.

Yeah we're gonna get some real insight from a guy who has been following the program since July.

If we give up on football, we will become irrelevant in Texas like UTA, Dallas Baptist and others. That is not the direction I want the program to take...I'll take the Baylor/TCU challenge instead. Hire the right coaches, which we have not done since 1989. We need this generations Ron Meyer, a guy that will captivate Dallas.

There it is, that 'free' scholarship again. Seems to me they provide a lot of time and effort in exchange for that 'free' scholarship. Both sides agree to the deal of their own free and that 'free' scholarship is the price you pay to enjoy the Blvd and all of the other benefits of football. Just ask TCU & Baylor about the benefits of football if you are one of those that believe there are none.

False. SMU would continue to be a Top 50 academic institution without football. We have a $1.5B endowment and a national student body. We would not become UT-Dallas, Houston Baptist, Abilene Crhstian or whatever. We could buy those schools ten times over. Get real.

So that gives you free reign to [deleted] on the institution that is providing that free education on an internet message board. Sounds reasonable. Lets just hope junior isn't a member of the inevitable purge that will occur on this roster or you might be the most hated poster on the Houston Baptist football message board next.

Exactly like MOST alumni and fans. Funny how Blvd'ing for the football games is really the only rallying point for most anybody associated with SMU or any other school. Really want to shut that football program down, right?

Get real. Look at how much Baylor and TCU moved up in USNews rankings while we remained stuck at 58, for what, 3 years straight? TCU moved like 8 spots!! Kids don't respect SMU anymore because of our pitiful football program, ask any kid in Texas High schools where they would like to go and immediately they say TCU, Baylor or one of the publics...asked about SMU and they say "ewww, SMU sucks". Believe we are untouchable? Get real. We aren't even AAU which is embarrassing.

SMU alumni give back to the institution at a greater percentage than A&M, Baylor, UT, TCU, etc. We've raised nearly $1B in the last six years alone. So yeah while Boulevarding is tons of fun we actually have one of the most engaged and relevant alumni bases in the state. Nice try though.

And say all you want about "oh we are targeting east coast kids". Newsflash, we are in Texas and there is no reason why we should have more than 60-70% of the kids come from Texas High Schools.
