The debut of the Flying Wishbone was against OU in Norman. I confirmed it with some excerpts from Newspapers with pay walls but to read full article you have to subscribe. NMSU was third game that year. Pretty sure Fry dumped the Flying Wishbone after 3-4 games.

Well I can assure you that the NMSU was the last game we used it. I was on the sideline watching Gary get killed.

Somewhere lost to history is a Classic Bill McClanahan cartoon from the DMN showing a mangled Peruna as a pilot of a crashed bi-plane marking the Crash of the Flying Wishbone

Sounds like the Flying Wishbone didn't get a proper burial. Perhaps we can throw both in the ground (FW & RNS) after the funeral service.
