In the ultimate of ironies, UAB now has to develop and fund another mens athletic team or they will no longer be Division I for any athletics because of Title IX....

They'll likely go the inexpensive route and add cross-country or track.

UAB decision on bringing back football announced June 1

The fate of UAB football will be decided soon.
UAB president Ray Watts said Wednesday that the school would announce its decision on whether to reinstate football on June 1.
That will give the school two weeks to fully digest the upcoming Collegiate Sports Solution report, on May 15. The report, which will review the CarrSports report, is expected to determine whether football is financially feasible at UAB.
Said Watts: "We will consider the report's findings, along with other important, valuable and mission-critical data, in order to make the best decision for UAB going forward, guided by our vision, mission and strategic plan."
Watts' announcement backs up everything AL.com has been told about a possible return. The school needs to make its intentions known ahead of the Conference USA president meetings in Dallas on June 8. If football returns, it will be a big pitch in UAB's efforts to stay in Conference USA.
If UAB does not return football, it is expected to get a one-year reprieve for 2015-16 but will ultimately have to find another conference, according to multiple sources.

IF they reinstate the program, what happens to all the players and coaches (most importantly Daric Riley) who have already left?

Football team likely coming back, plus the on campus stadium (they've wanted for awhile) that more than slightly looks like Ford... This whole episode has been a nightmare for the UA system. But who knows? Alabama politics are a bit shady and sinister at times.
