University of Houston should worry more about it's students being safe on campus. They keep getting robbed in the parking lots and in front of the dormitories.

They are already being robbed by UH for whatever they are paying to attend that glorified community college.

I will give them credit for this - it's good to at least have a small caucus of pols who are willing to look out for their alma mater. Whether they have any influence is a legit question.

Oh, please. This is a publicity stunt. They know darn well they aren't going to get into the Big XII, but they can look their constituents in the eye and say "I'm fighting for you." Shoot, I bet a number of people, including myself, haven't heard of this guy before he said that.

I lived in Houston for a number of years. As much as I despise Tillman I will say that he is well known and very politically connected. i.e. - personal friends with the Clintons etc. He is a very aggressive person and has been pretty successful at whatever he attempts to do.

I laugh at the idea of cougar high getting to a P5 program but at least they have a powerful person pushing that idea and trying to get something done.

The guy is worth an estimated $2.5 billion. He started and still owns Landry's Inc.

"Landry’s portfolio of concepts includes: The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casinos, Morton’s The Steakhouse, Rainforest Cafe, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks, Saltgrass Steak House, Claim Jumper, Chart House, The Oceanaire, Mastro’s Restaurants, Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse and many others."

Forbes calls him the “World’s Richest Restaurateur”.

Recall him hosting a 50k/plate dinner for B. Clinton at his home with about 200 guests in attendance.

Oh, and he also owns the Houston Rolls Royce/Bentely dealership.

According to Rivals, SMU signed a better class.

Let's compare SMU vs UH...

Location- SMU
Academics- SMU
Facilities- SMU
Players in the NFL- SMU
Campus- SMU
Girls- SMU

Bottom line: if you want to go to a school located in a ghetto with a mediocre reputation with less chance of making the NFL and surround yourself with girls that aren't that hot, go to Houston.

This whole thread is pointless. Houston has zero chance of getting into a P5 conference, ever. They are an academic cesspool and none of the P5 conferences that may want to expand into Texas to establish a presence here (Big Ten, ACC, Pac-12) could ever stomach the thought of aligning themselves with Houston.

Like us, they add nothing for the Big 12, and the SEC already has the Houston market locked down with A&M.
