This is admittedly a dumb question but I'm certain someone has a quick correct answer.

If samples or another in the same circumstances transferred to SMU this summer or fall could that player go on scholarship immediately? Would that use one of the three football scholarships said to be remaining after NLI's were signed earlier this year? Or would it count against next year?

I understand that in this situation the player would sit out a year because hardship transfers are no more.

Thanks.

I think he would have to be on scholarship unless he's paying for school out of pocket. I can't imagine a scenario where a player could get school paid for but not count toward the scholarship limit, even if he's "sitting out a year". Maybe he can sing or dance and we can get Meadows to hook him up with a scholly!

He would be instantly a scholarship athlete with the stipulation that he sits out next season and is eligible beginning in 2016 with two years left.

Also, 2016 would be a pretty interesting group of skill players from a recruiting standpoint without taking into consideration who we land in 2016.

QB Ben Hicks - Michigan, Florida, Texas Tech, Houston, Indiana

QB Matt Davis - Texas A&M, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Clemson, Iowa, Iowa Sate, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Pitt, Purdue, TCU, Texas Tech, Tulane, Tulsa, Utah

RB Daniel Gresham - Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado State, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Louisville, Miami, Ole Miss, Missouri, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas, Vanderbilt

WR Kevin Thomas - Clemson, Kansas, Nebraska, Maryland, Wisconsin, Wake Forest, Indiana, San Diego State, Nevada

WR Xavier Castille - Oklahoma State, Kansas, Washington, Houston, Memphis, Tulsa, Nevada

WR Ra'Shaad Samples - Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Cal, Colorado, Houston, Illinois, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Miss State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Purdue, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UCLA, USC, Vanderbilt, Washington, Washington State

WR Courtland Sutton - BYU, Colorado, Fresno State, Rice, New Mexico, Tulsa, Washington State

WR James Proche - Colorado State, Houston, Louisville, Maryland, TCU, Tulsa, Wake Forest

TE Jeremiah Gaines - Arizona State, Cal, Memphis, Ole Miss, Miss State, Purdue, Syracuse, TCU, Tulsa, UCF, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Washington State

TE Hunter Herndon - Oklahoma, Rice, New Mexico, North Texas

Wow.

And I'm not questioning you, SMT, but that list seems unbelievable. Maybe many were not really committable (Proche and TCU? Herndon and Oklahoma?), however, I think the "early playing time" is a huge selling point along with all the other stuff of course . . . Dallas, HCCM and staff, new facilities, etc etc).

Those offer lists were taken directly from Rivals so they are confirmed.

You have to take a lot of things into consideration when looking at offer lists so it really isn't as cut and dry as a lot of people think. Some kids commit early which will lead to fewer offers. Some kids drag their recruitment out until the last second which can, in theory, bring more potential suitors into the mix. A good example of how offers can no longer be commitable is Daniel Gresham. Almost all of his offers were prior to his senior season and his commitment to Texas. Now when Strong got the job and he no longer had an offer he was left a little high and dry. Schools like Alabama, Auburn, LSU, etc. had already moved on. There was a reason why he was taking visits to SMU and UTSA in the final two weeks before signing day.

That said, the majority of these kids have verified and commitable offers from P5 programs.

Highly likely we will see this kid at Ford. Let's just hope it is in an SMU uniform and not a Houston Cougar one...

He is visiting UH next...

If HCCM wants him, it's hard to believe he would choose Houston
