Interesting how he names Davis, Hicks and Colbert, but not Severt. I figured it would be those 3.

Severt and Stick don't really fit. I wonder if Severt will look elsewhere, although he didn't even have any FCS offers that we know of, so who knows where he could land.

I don't know that I would read too deeply into the statement just yet. He won't risk a relationship with Westlake by pushing Severt out the door.

My understanding from previous conversations is that the coaching staff isn't going to force anyone to move anywhere going into the spring. They want to look at players where they are comfortable and evaluate, and then will discuss transitioning to new positions heading into the fall.

If players on their own want to transition to a new role before spring practice they have the ability to do that as well.

But basically, everything is a wide open competition. They want to see what the guys look like after a couple of months in the S&C and in the new schemes. They are completely discounting everything that happened this fall (which is probably a good idea). They want to judge the players with their own eyes.

One of the challenges we are going to have is that I think a lot of players are not going to want to leave. There was a huge void of leadership that left with Klemm, McKnight, JR, and Gantz. Everyone felt it. That void being filled with capable leaders is really motivating. And I am sure everyone on the team sees that CM and the staff are going to do good things. And they probably really like being at SMU.

Because CM wants to maintain strong relationships with texas coaches, and players aren't going to leave on there own, the only players who would have scholarships revoked or be encouraged to leave are out of state guys. Even if some of them are more talented than the in-state folks.

In short, if you are really trying to figure out who is going to leave, start with the list of out of state guys and take it from there. The in state guys most likely have a spot unless the volunteer to leave.

We've already had about 5 kids-maybe more-leave in a couple of months. It will be no problem weeding out the kids we need to get down to 85. There is no way SMU keeps all the mini-me receivers at Receiver for 3 more years when we have already "recruited over" then in the 2015 Class and are primed to do so again in 2016. Same thing with our RBs. They either find a way to contribute to the team at a new position or they will be flushed out of the program

I don't think Carter, Sellers, Musser, Conley, Avantino, Buffini and Cox are on scholarship. BTW Deion Jr went to prep school in Atlanta but played HS football in DFW.

You're right. I edited the list. I was mindlessly copying and pasting. haha

Any guys that are going to be 5th year seniors will be easier to weed out. Reich is the first to come to mind, but there are others.
I think it will take care of itself this spring.

Castle and Riley-Ayers were walkons also, aren't they?

Burcham is injured and won't be released.

Halverson, Carroll, Reich, Fister, Hollie, Saena.

Wouldn't be surprised if we see a couple of players leave because they are more concerned with playing than being with a winning program. I just don't think it is going to be the people some folks might want to see disappear. Deion, Darius Joseph come to mind. I would keep my eye on Gresham.

Castle started out as a walk-on but got put on scholarship last year. Of course those are year to year.

This is a classic English understatement. After last year's QB issues, it is obviously wide open.

Goal: It should be a reasonably successful season if we can keep the number of QB who play in 2015 under three.
