Do private schools have to announce their stipend?

I assume everybody would want to (assuming it is decent), but I was just wondering if we will ever officially find out what we are doing.

Since Dallas is a higher cost of living area, SMU should pay more. Much, much more.

Those are crazy numbers. I would say most college kids live on less than that a semester. I sure did/do. This is just fun money and not rent or food right? (I'm not including the kids who get an allowance from their parents)

But agree SMU should pay way more than anyone else if we can.

My frat bro who played for SMU for two years, before blowing out his back and knee, used to get $1600 a month from SMU for his stipend. It was a calculation based on the most expensive dorm, meal plan, books, blah blah blahs that you could get. I know he had buddies that played for TCU that would get around $900 for their stipend a month, and his brother who currently plays for tech gets around $700 a month. We were always, more or less, at the top because that was the way the were allowed to calculate it, since our school was so damn expensive.

I would like to point out though, It's not like they didn't get anything before. $1,600 was above what I spent a month.

Yeah but then do they get books rent food etc. free? Or is the stipend supposed to be to cover that stuff? Because if our athletes have $1600 of beer money to blow a month no wonder we have problems keeping kids eligible. (not to mention all the free drinks the guys get) I assume I am misunderstanding what we use stipends for.

FWIW I'm all for giving them as much as we need to give to be more enticing than other schools, cost of living is higher here, but I guess i'm just surprised how much it is.

These numbers are pretty meaningless at an untouchable like UT. Those major sports kids are already comped for so much stuff around Austin it is ridiculous. I don't know what the big time boosters are doing but I see the small time business people and alums footing the bill for a lot of entertainment and I expect other expenses as well. Interestingly, I think that Strong is requiring the football guys to all live together in a dorm. That may not go over so well with some of the kids who would rather get a stipend.

I'm not following this.
the cost to attend SMU yearly is $64840.
http://www.smu.edu/Admission/FinancialAid/Costs
compound that over 4 years at 5% increase comes to $279,468
and on top of that another $4000? a year.

and they complain they are not compensated enough?

what am I missing?

File a grievance against the school.

I could be mistaken, but I believe you are owed anywhere from 48-60 handshakes.

Or was it just one handshake?
