Disciplining athletes (bowling is a sport?) by making them run.

the good part of that discipline is that Tulane's football stadium only has about 10 rows so how hard could it be.

On a related note, does the band have mandatory workouts with the S&C coach?

Best thing ever to happen to her career. Everyone knows her name now and 95% of people that read/hear the story will take her side.

must be more to the story. Running, especially for someone who isn't in shape, such as maybe a bowler could be dangerous if no breaks and water and their system breaks down.

When I was in college, I would never have considered going to my mommy for help with a professor/coach.

I have visions of Gillian from the Biggest Loser screaming at some kid who responds by calling his mother (or Craig James) to fix his/her problem for him.

In high school, I can't imagine complaining to my parents:
1) Dad, Coach made me wrestle the heavyweight again,
2) Dad, Coach decided to "demonstrate" throws on us b/c we were screwing around,
3) Mom, Coach made us run 5 miles in the cold while he followed in his car yelling at us.

But, I wasn't on the bowling team.

While my first reaction is that this story is absolutely absurd, I will hold off on jumping to conclusions because this was punishment running so it's very possible the coach may have over done it, especially since the athletes in question are not ones known for having an elite level of fitness. I didn't play in college, but even when I was in VERY good shape I did some punishment workouts that left me faltering physically and mentally so I can imagine this happening if the same punishment was issued to someone on the bowling team.

They definitely should have been punished, maybe even physically, if the coach took the workload into consideration. I could very easily see this If the coach just wanted to make them hurt and knew they couldn't do it (but didn't expect this kind of backlash)

While a hammer is a fine tool, it's not the right one for every job >:)

Maybe wrist curls to failure would have been a more palatable punishment.

I take it that the Green Wave Bowling Team has something to do with Title IX compliance. Does anyone know how many colleges have bowling as a sport? Do team members receive full or partial scholarships? And is there an NCAA limit on the number?

Maybe the punishment was overdone, but it does look to me like if you receive financial aid, or if you are a walk-on hoping for a scholie then you are subject to discipline.
