Get to know Justin Stepp, as the new SMU receivers coach sat down with PonyFans.com to discuss his playing and coaching background, his relationship with head coach Chad Morris, how his coaching goals influenced his personal life, his thoughts about recruiting for SMU, and his impression of some of the current SMU receivers after spring practice.

(Note: this is a long interview, so grab something to eat and put your feet up for this one!)

Wow. What an exciting interview.

I am proud to have this coach on The Hilltop. There is no reason to believe Stepp will not be very successful in his coaching career.

Hopefully there are more interviews with our assistants! It's great to get this kind of insight into our staff.

That was awesome. All of the coaches are like that - they may be young, but they really know what they are talking about.

Best part of the interview was the very end.

"I don't think anyone around the country has any idea how good we are going to be."

Instead of penciling in wins and losses and whining about stadium lights we have coaches that have the confidence and bravado that this is going to be one hell of a turnaround.

I had forgotten about the lights. Truly an uncommitted school would spend at least five figures to install brand new lighting in the stadium in the middle of the season in the middle of the week.

That jumped out at me, too. This coach just oozes confidence.

I shall call him Mini-Chad!

Almost shocking to hear a coach's interview with so few boring cliches.

Good point. I hadn't realized that when we visited, but now that you mention it, that's true.

Here's another impressive thing: when I went to meet him, I was told Coach Stepp had left for the day because he was under the weather. But then he appeared — he came back to honor an interview appointment with someone he had never met before. It would have been so easy to reschedule, but he showed up and knocked that interview out of the park.

It was definitely the best part of the interview and got me fired up for next season. Another great, young, energetic coach. I wish it was September already.

Loved to hear that this staff is not afraid to play Baylor and will be prepared. JJ and company made every excuse in the world why we should cancel Baylor even with 6 years advanced notice. Still will never forgive Hart for letting JJ off the hook and swallowing the Kool Aid. That alone should have resulted in JJ's dismissal.
