Baylor QB Seth Russell Wins Manning Skills Camp

Postby Stallion » Sat Jul 18, 2015 12:22 pm

Russell is actually a much better athlete than last year's starter Bryce Petty (4.49 40) plus he's got a lot of playing time in the last 2 seasons. Although he had a ho-hum performance against SMU last year I wouldn't expect too much of a drop-off this year at QB in the opener. He's been in the perfect grooming situation-playing early and often early in his career but not in the spotlite

I won't be surprised if he struggles September 4 though.

Already has thrown 128 passes and actually led all Big 12 QBs in Passing Efficiency with a 164 rating. He's already started multiple games and played in crunch time in several others. I think he steps into starting QB role with little problem

I watched him play at Garland. Did we ever recruit him? Who would have thought Baylor and TCU would be the dominant teams in Texas?

Baylor's back up QB threw more TDs (8) than SMU's entire team (6) last year and did it in only 85 attempts versus 430 attempts for SMU QBs

I don't think we offered Russell but we did slow play Petty after he decommitted from Tennessee -and Baylor jumped in late in the recruiting season

Seth originally signed? committed to Kansas. When the coaches changed he left or whatever. Seth will have a pretty good year, but probably won't get the credit.
