i was at cal st northridge game. we won so i was happy.
missed ecu game. rare to miss a game. always there unless really good excuse. was very happy about first quarter. followed it on my phone. thought we were going to pull off an upset. not surprised when we collapsed in the second half.
you have to be a bit of a masochist to go to smu football games. most people can't take losing. ut will soon find that out. people disappear.

Did nothing, but enhance the SMU stereotype.
it was an angle on soccer but most don't follow soccer. Thought he had some good ideas going for a rowdy young alumni section. Get them a section and coordinate with the students for cheers.

they should experience losing the way we have over the past 26 years...then see how many empty seats there are!

The reality is that SMU is a small school that has not been relevant in the football world for almost 30 years. What that means is we have only produced roughly 45k alumni in those 30 years. I bet what 30k at the most live in Dallas right? so if there are 30k alumi in the Dallas area let's say there are 90k to 100k that have a meaningful connection to the school. That means you have to get 33% of the total population with a connection to the school to show up to fill ford. That is unrealistic. To fill Ford consistently you need Dallas in general (ie non alumni) to produce a demand for tickets in the 20-25k range. You will only do that by giving people a compelling product to become fans of. In football that means winning a lot (10+ games a year for several years) and winning against competition that earns respect.

That might have been the low point of SMU football attendance at any time after maybe 1920.

Is that pertinent to anything very much? Not really, but there have been worse times for the program and maybe we are going in a different direction now.

I was there. I have missed only a couple of home games since 1993. Call me the eternal optimist.

You might be a Mustang Fan if you attended

SMU v Rice 1977 6,000
SMU v Fresno 1999 8,000 (announced really 4,000) AND
SMU v. Cal St-Northridge 1999 7,000

Some of the games last year couldn't have been more than 1,000 in attendance

Depressing that I saw the CSU-Northridge game in person. Wasn't that the same season we had to cancel a game because of electrical problems at SJSU?
