One of the chief architects of Mustang Mania, was the late great Russ Potts, he said, an empty seat, never bought a hot dog or a program.

We can't giveaway tix like they did in the late 70s. Great campaign for its time that wouldn't work now.
We need to work on paying customers, not rent a fans who don't come back.

Its greatest achievement was not money in the bank but Butts in the seats which made recruiting easier for Ron Meyer. We've had a bunch of great prospects watch us play in front of 4,000 in recent weeks. How many of them crossed SMU off their list? SMU's own fans are Chad Morris' biggest rally killer-he'll probably succeed despite SMU fans and then he's going to leave and we are going to have to start over-maybe retain someone from his staff

But we were less removed from winning football and we played our tradition rivals. It had only been 12 years since we had won a conference championship. I think we won a conference championship against tough SWC competition in every decade except for the 50s and even then we played ND and Ohio State competitively with exciting football.

The carousel of conferences over the last 30 years hasn't helped either. If we played in the AAC 40 years again I am not sure it would of worked to the same degree that it did with the SWC with its 80 year history

Also, SMU hasn't had any decent Ads until arguably the last two.

Yes, we have bad fans, and Morris will have to be a miracle man to get 'em back in the seats and loud. But it is entirely understand how bad our fans are, and it will necessarily take time to get them back.

Of course, everyone already knows this.

doesn't care who wins.

I remember a game in high school where we all went out to see SMU play Rice. The game drew 49K at Texas Stadium.
