If I'm buying out the HC for $15-$20 million, I'm not getting first year HC Tom Herman for $3.5 to $4.0 million in year one. They must feel confident they can get a $6-$7 million man.

Unless they convince Saban to come back it's beyond stupid. 1 National championship and 2 SEC in what, 9 years?

look at their alumni in the nfl. look particularly at their utilization of the best stable of WRs to come out of any school in recent years. look at their play calling in any big game in recent years. look at their development of QBs. watch saban coach circles around miles every time they play. watch some of the worst in-game management since andy reid (see the Tennessee game in 2010 for the most sterling example although there are plenty more). they should easily have the same resume as alabama over the last ten years. miles is a great recruiter, a consummate players coach, and nothing more. this isn't the gerry dinardo era in louisiana, when LA high school football wasn't the factory that it is now. all you need to be a top tier recruiter for LSU right now is to be american, christian, and not a total jerk. (hyperbole, of course, but not by much)

this is the right move... now whether or not that 15M is better spent elsewhere in that dumpster fire of an education system is the real question, but i guess that's for the new governor to figure out.
