2016 Roster - Who Leaves?

With a full 25 man class coming in, it was time to look at the roster. Bottom line, we need to trim the roster to 60 players. After deleting the guys from the roster who were seniors, Koonce, Line, and walk-ons, I came up with a 69 man roster heading into the Spring.

Bottom Line: we probably need to reduce the roster by about 8 more players.

Are all the players on both lists on athletic scholarships?

I don't think it is a problem. Morris indicated last night that we would be taking two blueshirts, because we will be two short of 85 going into the spring.

There are a handful of players on that list that aren't on scholarship. Just because someone was given a scholarship last year after being a walk on doesn't necessarily mean they will get one this year. Also, there are probably some transfers we know about and some we don't. Spring roster will tell us.

Because SMU's website doesn't list who is and is not on scholarship, I had to make an educated guess about who to include/exclude from the "on scholarship" group. Almost all of the "on scholarship" group are players that signed National Letters of Intent with SMU at some point.

The bottom line is that some of those players aren't going to be on scholarship at SMU in the Fall.

BTW - I did not expect Prescott Line to transfer.

Keyfer Roberts is not on scholarship

RC Cox and Jackson Mitchell came as walkons-not sure they were put on permanent scholarship-which are renewable anyway on one year basis. SMU has to inform players whose scholarships will not be renewed by about July 1, 2016

We have 26 coming in (You already have Thomas listed), so have to get down to 59. 9 players (you have 68 players listed above).

Mitchell was put on scholarship, but those aren't guaranteed beyond a year. That is what I was trying to say before. Cox, Mitchell, Roberts, Stotts. Halverson, Holloway. 3 more.

I would guess a few players who saw PT at corner at the end of last year were probably auditioning, but that is only a guess with no inside information. Also, keep in mind that there was a lot of mention of academics in the class that came in which makes me wonder if there might be a redshirt that struggled and didn't make grades.

I think I read that Galliard hosted one of the players, I doubt he is going to be pushed out.

Coach Morris said that SMU had over recruited at OL during the June Jones years so I would think some of them would be transferring out after this semester.
