Brown Named To Rimington Trophy Watch List

DALLAS (SMU) –SMU’s Evan Brown has been named to the 2016 Spring Watch List for the Rimington Trophy, the Rimington Trophy committee announced Tuesday. The award is given annually to the top center in FBS college football, and the spring watch list includes top centers from across the country who were nominated for the recognition.

Brown, who will be a junior in 2016, has started 22 games in his first two seasons on the Hilltop, mostly at right guard. The Southlake, Texas, native did start two games at center as a freshman in 2014.
Brown is one of 57 student-athletes recognized on the list and one of seven centers from the American Athletic Conference.

The Rimington Trophy committee uses the All-America teams from the Walter Camp Foundation, the Sporting News and the Football Writers Association of America to determine the winner of the trophy. The winner will be recognized at the Rimington Trophy Presentation at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017.

Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only double winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
