Sally Jenkins Scorches Baylor

Postby max the wonder dog » Thu Jun 02, 2016 6:51 pm

Sally Jenkins goes medieval on Baylor hypocrisy in Wash Post.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/colleges/a-football-school-where-your-alma-mater-is-your-alibi/2016/06/01/5cb96b62-27f8-11e6-a3c4-0724e8e24f3f_story.html

It begins "We here at Faker University are called to service. We seek to educate young men and women for Christian Leadership by integrating spiritual hypocrisy with football victories, within a caring community in which no one need take responsibility for their actions. Faker University seeks to foster spiritual maturity by teaching how to deflect blame and look the other way, while praising the Lord in a loud voice. Our mission is to bind up the wounds of the broken world — and hide the paperwork.

At Faker U, we champion and glorify God on the field by recruiting strong young people, some with a history of violence. Therefore our code of conduct and administrative policies are designed to be redemptive and fully forgiving, so as to promote the Christian values of limited liability. As it says on our school crest, “Nolle Prosequi (Unwilling to Prosecute)."

Baylor is a joke, but so is Sally Jenkins. She defended Paterno and Lance Armstrong so she can spare us all the righteous indignation

I'm no fan of Baylor, and I find their sanctimonious nature annoying. But when it is Jenkins writing this it feels so very smug. She clearly relishes the situation, and when combined with her defense of paterno comes off kind of creepy.

I know what that's like. Although I wish it were a tad bit darker.
