I hated the guy after the 83 bowl games, but if this story is true there isn't a place in hell hot enough.

Paterno could not reveal anything - he knew nothing! Like Sgt Shultz.

Purposeful ignorance. Happens in boardrooms and government buildings all across america. It usually doesn't negatively effect the lives of this man young people - so this is a very different degree of shame in my book.

Ill admit to never liking this guy. He seemed vastly overrated as a human being. He ignored what was right in front of him because he didn't want to have to deal with it, and he knew it would raise a stink and bring shame to his program. Swept it under the rug.

Penn staters loved him basically because he won. There wasn't much else to like about the guy.

Maybe Stallion or one of the other legal-types could weigh in, but the attempt at "plausible deniability" seems a stretch with what has come out in the Sandusky trial and now in the insurance settlement case...either way, evil abounds at dear 'ol PSU, from the finger-pointing to the defense of people who SHOULD know what is happening.

Since Paterno knew of the rapes and did nothing, nah enabled more rapes, isn't he an accomplice?

On the Civil Front, PSU has paid/spent something like $100MM to resolves the claims against it. You don't pay that kind of money if you have good defenses. In particular, I think they were basically defenseless to post-McQueary claims.

While we will certainly never know for sure when Paterno and the athletic department "Knew," it is virtually certain that it was years (if not decades) before the story broke.

Sick - This world is sick. Pitt is sick to have let this go on. They all knew and have paid almost 100 million dollars as they have no moral, legal, ethical leg to stand on.

Winning is great but not everything.

Doing your best - Running the race to win - Apostle Paul said. A metaphor for doing the moral, Christ like act. This world is sick. Pray and watch your actions daily.

Peace be with you always.

I guess the devout JoePa and friends didn't get the message:

I was on the road the other day and didn't get the name of the radio talk show host, but he was discussing this mess and told the story about one of the accusers whose mother went to the boy's high school counselor with the accusation against Sandusky. According to this story, the counselor and the school principal discouraged them from turning in Sandusky because "Jerry is actually a very nice guy." The allure of successful athletic programs is very powerful.
