PonyFans.com Q&A: Strength coach Trumain Carroll — Part I

Postby PonyPride » Thu Jul 21, 2016 1:51 am

With the exception of spring workouts, much of the offseason work put in by football players across the country is done in the weight room and on the field, where players lift racks of weight to increase strength, run sprints for improved speed and jump on stacked boxes to improve explosiveness. The man putting the Mustangs through their paces is SMU strength and conditioning coach Trumain Carroll, who visited with PonyFans.com. In Part I of his Q&A, he discusses how the program has evolved, who has played key roles in its development and how nutrition, education and recovery are vital to the student-athletes' development.

Great article! Looks like we might have some breakaway speed at RB now to turn those 20 yard runs into 60 yarders.

My guess for the player with "scary strength": Courtland Sutton
I feel bad for corners who make the mistake of trying to play press coverage at the line against him

Smart man, going to Clemson to see how they do things. Never hurts to see exactly how the boss likes things done.

Xavier's 4.43 Forty time even carrying 20 more pounds is really exciting. He reminded me of former Texas A&M RB Darrin Lewis last year with his devastating cuts on a dime. Thing is-Darrin Lewis barely ran a 4.6 yet I believe he finished as the All Time Rushing Leader in SWC History. Xavier cutting ability is among the best I've seen in an SMU RB even as a freshman. Now I just want him to cut into space and turn on his new jets.
