PonyFans.com Q&A: Strength coach Trumain Carroll — Part II

Postby PonyPride » Tue Jul 26, 2016 12:57 am

With the exception of spring workouts, much of the offseason work put in by football players across the country is done in the weight room and on the field, where players lift racks of weight to increase strength, run sprints for improved speed and jump on stacked boxes to improve explosiveness. The man putting the Mustangs through their paces is SMU strength and conditioning coach Trumain Carroll, who visited with PonyFans.com. In Part II of his Q&A, he discusses a number of topics, including individual players who have made significant progress (he also pointed out that the players listed here are not the only ones who have been putting in work over the offseason — just some of those who came to mind), why all players within a position group can't train the same way, and how the players who missed significant time last season with injuries are doing with their conditioning.

Thanks! Stories like this are a lot of fun to do (although I can't remember transcribing an interview that long before!)

Thanks. It's great to know we have made some progress this summer on the weights!

We need to get new dumbbells without the phony pony though.
