SMU Football Announces Addition Of Five Student-Athletes

DALLAS (SMU) – Head Coach Chad Morris today announced the addition of five student-athletes who will join the football team this season.

The Mustangs welcome defensive back Chan Amie, defensive lineman Terry Ayeni, quarterback Rafe Peavy, wide receiver Trey Quinn and punter Jamie Sackville. Amie and Sackville are eligible immediately and will have four years of eligibility, while Ayeni, a graduate transfer, is also eligible immediately with one season of eligibility. Peavy and Quinn will both have two seasons of eligibility beginning in 2017.

High School: A four-year letterwinner in football, where he played linebacker and running back... Helped lead the Waskom Wildcats to back-to-back Class 3A Division 2 state championships (2014-15)… Named the Defensive Most Valuable Player in the 2014 state title game… Earned the Offensive Most Valuable Player in 2015 state title game… Was high school teammates with current SMU defensive back Kevin Johnson… As a senior, he led all East Texas runners in both total yards (2,672) and rushing touchdowns (39) … Defensively, he finished second regionally in tackles with 201, including 52 tackles for loss.

Prior to SMU: The graduate transfer comes to the Hilltop after spending the last two seasons at Iowa State… He played two years at New Mexico Military Institute, where he notched 50 tackles, 7.5 sacks and 14 tackles en route to earning second-team all-conference honors in 2013... Was listed as the eighth-best strongside defensive end by JCgridiron.com and the ninth-best strongside defensive end by 247Sports.

Prior to SMU: Redshirted his freshman season at Arkansas and did not appear in any games last season… Peavy will have two seasons of eligibility beginning in 2017… He was four-star recruit in 2014 that was rated as the No. 8 quarterback prospect by Tom Lemming… ESPN ranked him as the No. 4 prospect from Missouri and the No. 10 quarterback in the nation… Earned the No. 10 ranking among pro-style quarterbacks nationally from 247Sports, while Rivals ranked him as the No. 2 prospect from Missouri and the No. 4 dual-threat quarterback in the country… He participated in the 2014 Under Armour All-America Game, finishing 7-of-11 passing for 71 yards and leading two scoring drives… Led Bolivar High School to an undefeated regular season during his senior year… Bolivar won 12 consecutive games in 2013, including an 11th-straight Central Ozark Conference championship and the Missouri Class 4, District 7 title… The Liberators were the first team to go 12-0 in school history, and the quarterfinals were the farthest the team had advanced in 11 years… In his senior season, he earned first-team all-state honors after he was 127-of-185 passing for 2,294 yards and 16 touchdowns and had 187 carries for 1,557 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns… Had three additional winning seasons at Bolivar, finishing 9-3 his junior year, 9-2 his sophomore year and 8-1 on the freshman team… During his junior and sophomore seasons, he was 191-of-288 passing for 3,696 yards and 38 touchdowns and had 156 carries for 1,040 yards and 26 touchdowns… An All-Central Ozarks Conference and all-district selection each of his three years as the starter and was also named the Central Ozarks Conference MVP.

Longest catch of career came in Texas Bowl vs. Texas Tech when he hauled in a 46-yard reception... Caught a pass for 14 yards in win over Syracuse... Had a reception for an 11-yard gain against Arkansas and followed that with two receptions for 12 yards against Ole Miss… As a freshman, he was one of 17 true freshmen to see action for the Tigers in 2014... Started seven of 13 games... Finished with 17 receptions which tied for second on the team... Stands as the national all-time career high school leader in receiving yards with 6,566 in four seasons at Barbe... Holds the Louisiana state record for career receptions (357) and receiving yards (6,566).
