I know this has been talked about before but why don't we try to be independent in football and then in AAC for all other sports? Are there any real benefits to being in the AAC for football? I say schedule middle of the road Power 5 schools with a couple cream puffs/TCU and you would have a lot of excitement for the casual Dallas football fan. Nobody wants to see SMU play Tulsa/ECU/Tulane/Uconn etc. in football around Dallas. Do we really need the money that AAC football provides?? If BYU can do it then we can.

We would have a tough time scheduling, getting tv coverage and SMU aint paying a 10m exit fee to the AAC unless it is to go to the Big 12.

BYU has a massive national following. We do....not.

If you're serious about this you need to dig deeper into how it all works and you'll understand how ridiculous it is. There's a reason so few teams are independent.

Only a handful of people in the City of University Park, Texas follow SMU, so that's a really big problem for us.

That would free us up for more games against the Southland. This idea may have some merit after all.
