First Team Defense Competed WelL

Postby Stallion » Fri Sep 23, 2016 11:38 pm

first series 3 straight receivers were pounded-its too bad Millines got tossed after destroying the TCU receiver. They were setting a nice hitting tone there in first half. TCU was 0-7 on 3rd down in First Half. Unfortunately, I haven't seen many games were the QB got about 300 yards throwing into the middle deep center of the field-just about all after Millines went out. Seems like just about every successful pass TCU threw was in this area. Horace Richardson went out too. Need better athletes at LB and more experience at CB. 19 minutes TCU's Time of Possession in 2nd half didn't help. I think Kevin Johnson made about 10 tackles and at least 6 were outstanding especially in run support. I wish he was bigger but he's going to be very good despite that limitation

Our defense is a shocking bright spot this season. I had extremely low expectations but I am very impressed with what they have showed so far.

Huge. But we are playing with some swagger now and I'm thrilled with how the D has responded (until they just wear out due to minutes they have to play). Kudos to Van.

Not sure if we got conservative on blitzes or just worn out, but Hill had a ton more time to throw in second half.

Team speed on D much better. There were sweeps we chased down that would have scored last year.

Looks like we are half way there on Defense-the First Half

I would have been shocked if you told me that we shut out (no TDs) 2 of the most explosive offenses in the Country in the First Half

I don't even want to look at the 2nd Half numbers in those games-its not unusual for young inexperienced teams with little depth to fold in 2nd Half and not unusual for superior teams to wake up after Half time and squish an upstart inferior team. Kind of hard to get a perspective yet-but the effort has been there in first half

The secondary really softened up in the second half-especially Wyatt for some reason. Onu is going to be a player.

Wyatt did go out with an injury early in 2nd Half. Maybe playing through injury

Don't know if it was softening up, or that hill had much more time in the second half.

Looked to me from the way he came off the field he may have had a "third leg" injury. He was in a lot of pain but got no treatment on the sideline.

To play? I am not into giving treatment for that.

Ouch

Anyway if I was a TCU opponent I'd take a close look at that 2nd Half video-looks like Kenny Hill's best throws are right in front of him in the center of the field

The most impressive thing to me was that even though Hill had all day to throw, we never got beat deep. Corners and safeties for the most part did a good job in college. The passes over the middle for the most part were "scramble drill" after the original routes had been run and players improvised. Eventually they broke away from LBs.

Except for the one play where it was 3rd and 15 and we rushed only three and freaking Lawler is covering a TE who finally breaks open. Hello?
