Hell we played for a SWC Co-Championship in last week of season against Arkansas on National TV in 1984 before 28,000. We won. SMU went to Hawaii to play Notre Dame and UH went to Cotton Bowl

It's just the "culture" at SMU. Boulevard...yes, but actually going to a football game?

It is the culture. Most of the students aren't Texans that care about football. Smu has A small student body to begin with, and the majority are from New England private schools/California/foreign kids... the rest are rich girls who would only go to games if SMU was a powerhouse and it was a big deal to dress up for and look hot at games... just the way it is. A small student body with a small number of students that wouldnt care about football even if we were were good

Well I think you are wrong. If we were relevant it would be packed. That has not been tested since 1985.

It should not be difficult to pack a 32k venue. At least back in the 80's we were playing to half empty Texas Stadium but to a crowd that would look good today in Ford

If the Big 12 can put off any decision for a couple of years perhaps we will have our problems cut to a minimum and look more acceptable.

SMU was in a Texas-centric power conference back then playing against programs that would bring a lot of fans.

Unfortunately, I think it might even take more than that - let's face it - our students are not going to fill Ford, hell they don't even fill Moody. A Heisman candidate, (which means a relevant program) would create the Buzz needed - in this market you need the extra spark to create an atmosphere like moody. Maybe afterward, the boulevard and a decent team would be enough to keep it filled, but until then we need something to drastically tip the scales.

yeah everybody knows that-what they fail to admit is that there were more Arkansas fans than SMU fans. Other games that season drew 25,000

They also don't admit that the SMU v Pitt Cotton Bowl was one of the worst attended Cotton Bowls in History. Remember the Cotton Bowl association sells half the tickets to that game through repeat sales

It's all about winning. No body wants to go see a bad product. If the wins start to pile up, you will see an uptick in attendance--See SMU basketball.

The only time SMU has really looked like anything close to a top 30 team in this millennium has been twice, at the end of the season, in bowl games 3,600 miles away. Put an exciting product on the field, steal some big wins at home against teams people care about and all attendance concerns go away. This isn't a chicken or the egg thing...to fill our stadium we need to attract Dallas, and they aren't going to come watch us [deleted] all over our legs against TCU/Baylor/A&M. News-flash: if you are going to turn around a program, you may have to find ways to win games you shouldn't in front of 22-25K at first.
