Tom Herman's "Private School In Dallas" Remark

Postby crazy horse » Sun Oct 23, 2016 12:09 am

Tom Herman made fun of SMU. Months later, SMU shocked Houston by 22 points
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2016/10/20/13347708/tom-herman-houston-smu-rivalry

Author reminds folks of Herman's kind words.

"And if you're satisfied with going 7-5 and going to the Poulan Weedeater Bowl, then great. Then you're in the wrong program and we'll find a place for you to go. I hear there's a private school up in Dallas that's really looking to try to get to seven wins. We can certainly find you a home."
"Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

Sorry, the Poulan Weedeater Bowl no long exist and hasn't for sometime. Poulan was founded in Houston Texas in 1971. It was the original weedeater as we know them today. The company was eventually sold to Electrolux. Poulan sponsored the Independence Bowl for a few years but that ended after 1986. And by the way, it was the Duck Commander Independence Bowl for one year (yes, of Duck Dynasty fame).

And only SEC and ACC 7 win teams can go to the Independence Bowl due to conference tie ends. The Bowl game is the 11th oldest bowl. It has seen teams like Alabama (3), Texas A$M (3), LSU (2), TTU (2), Oregon (1) and Notre Dame (1).

It certainly isn't a prestigious bowl nor in a glamor location, but it isn't one shunned by some petty impressive 7 win teams, either.

It is too bad Tom feels so much animosity towards the Independence Bowl class of bowl games since there is a very good chance that will be what his failing Cougars will 'earn' this year.

I hear there's a public school in Houston looking to get to 7 wins to go to the Poulan Weedeater Bowl

He'll be long gone before that game is played. I wonder who they'll pick to be the interim.

After watching the replay-UH must have had 12-15 injuries-they are a pretty beat up ball club after SMU

Their guys didn't expect to be in a dogfight last night.

After that game neither LSU nor Texas have him at the top of their lists.

19-3 record, nothing has changed for him just yet.

I am just saying if you look at their boards they have cooled off on him. Louisville game will be very important for him regarding LSU and UT imo.

Fans are fickle, they win a few games and everyone will love him again. He's still on track to be somewhere else next year barring an epic collapse (like losing out).
