As of now only 20 teams have 6 wins and another 31 teams with 5 wins.
I think 6 wins will be enough

UCF and Cincy are sitting at 4-3 and in a better position than SMU and we don't get to play either one of them. Navy and/or Houston would have to win out and hope Boise loses to get back into the New Years Bowl lineup (which could mean 8 bowl opportunities) or we would have to hope some other conference can't fill it's spots with enough eligible teams...so our guys just might have to win 7 games to get invited to a bowl. Pretty tall order given our remaining schedule and we have to maintain our sanity and remember that Houston was just one upset win! On to Tulane...

If we make it to 6-6, we are bowling. Every 6-6 team has to be chosen before they can invite a 5-7 team and last year there were four 5-7 invites. If the American has enough bowl eligible teams, it will come down to where we fall in the ranking of the teams and our attractiveness to the American's bowl partners. But even if we lose out on on those measures, we'd still take the spot of some other conference that can't fill it's bowl lineup.

my new neighbor was the back up RB to Ernie Davis at Syracuse. That won't mean much to the youngsters but the old Mustangs will appreciate that. He & I have been following our respective teams' seasons and both pretty pleased (after starting poorly) with what has happened so far this year

Grew up in the Syracuse area - still have 90 year old parents, 2 siblings, and high school friends there (not to mention a 100 year old family cottage on a finger lake). Spent fall listening to Syracuse football games on the radio while raking/burning leaves there. Attended the BC Game the year they went undefeated and tied Auburn in the Sugar Bowl (Daryl Johnston, Marvin Harrison, Donovan McNabb) were all at Syracuse then or soon after. Great program then. Nice to see the resurgence with Babers and Dungey. Would be great if they played SMU in a bowl game.

Normally, I would say there is no way this is happening. But given that I will be on a New Year's Disney Cruise we booked for my kid's birthday so there is NO way I could attend, the rest of you can book your trips. You're welcome.

We would have 10-15K show up in Memphis for a chance to beat Texas in a bowl game.

That bowl always looks miserable on tv. Cold and wet every year.

In Memphis for Christmas so might have to stay the whole week if this is true. Already going to the game against the Tigers on 12/27 to see Janks lead the team to a 1-0 start in conference play.
