Haven't followed Keeler close enough to comment

I would contact both of these now. Lincoln Riley would be a quality choice from what I know of him. Don't overreact but let's not drag our feet.

You guys think Montgomery will head down to SMU and stay in the AAC West?

He's getting paid only $800,000. Going to need to do some due diligence

I'm not sold on Meachum or Sonny Cumbie as head coaches right now. Are they great coordinators-yes
I think I might go for Strong over Meachum and Cumbie because in fact he has built a Top 10 team-and I truly believe when you tear a program to the ground like Strong did then you should expect it generally to take 3-4 years-but at UT you only get 3 at most. It would be nice to at least see him take UT to a bowl by beating TCU

Thoughts on keeler?

My fear w Riley is that he's another chad. He's already a really hot commodity and would likely leave after a yr or 2.

Agree with your concerns about Riley. Herman & CM were the top 2 hires and both only contributed 1 true recruiting class.

Given the circumstances surrounding Strong's dismissal, he 'may' have a sense of loyalty towards us if we actively pursue him...who knows.

I just figured Tulsa could counter offer (maybe not at the $2.5 million level that SMU might be willing to do).

IF Chad leaves...who's on the list for our next HC?

My top 5
1. Lane Kiffin (Saban has reformed him and he has a terrific football IQ)
2. Charlie Strong
3. Lincoln Riley
4. PJ Fleck
5. Ed Warriner

Charlie Strong could probably live with our pay scale since he will be getting a large buyout from the whorens. IMO he could do a good job here.

Riley would be great as well but probably would be looking at us as a short term stop.

I THINK WE HAVE TO REALIZE THAT ANY GOOD, YOUNG COACH WHO TAKES THIS JOB IS USING IT AS A STEPPING STONE. THE ONLY WAY WE HAVE A COACH STAY AT SMU IS TO HIRE AN OLDER HEAD COACH WITH SKINS ON THE WALL ALREADY. OR HIRE SOMEONE THAT LOVES SMU LIKE A RAMON FLANIGAN TYPE

If I am not mistaken, if a fired coach such as Strong were to get hired, the previous school only has to pay the difference in remaining contract and new pay. So if Strong is getting $5,000,000 from UT for 2 years, we can structure a contract to pay him $1.00 for 2 years and then a negotiated new amount to kick in year 3.

Technically correct-mitigation of (contractual) damages. But a Court might find that Strong failed to reasonably mitigate his damages-I dunno they might pro-rate contract. But he can sit on his [deleted] and get the contract amount. Or UT could come to a contractual settlement of the remaining contractual damages and release their right of mitigation.

I'm thinking we would probably have to pay at least $500,000 for Strong. I think that is an amount we could get away with if, especially if we made it heavy on difficult to achieve incentives such as 9 wins next season. Would definitely be worth a shot as we would get buyout money from Baylor and let the COC save on salary which could be used for the IPF.

Why do you guys want Charlie Strong? He doesn't appear to be a very good salesman and he failed with UT's endless resources.
