If Chad wants to leave, he will leave. There's nothing we can do about it. He didn't finish the job here before jumping ship. Let's hope we hire someone who is truly committed to doing so before leaving this time.

and let's also accept the fact that anyone who does well here at SMU is going to get offers and have opportunities to move to a P5 program

He set things up well for the next guy, can't ask for much more than that.

I would normally agree it is a good thing, however this is a unique situation in that Baylor is sitting there with no recruits late in the process and we have several recruited by Morris. He can take any or all of our recruits and we could end up as the school with no recruits late in the process. Just another step in the travails of no depth.

Just think what a good advertising this is for SMU: Nice salary, low expectations, high rewards for marginal success. Coordinators all over America will think, "I can do that!"

Recruits would have to weigh following him to Baylor versus getting recruited over for better talent in next year's class. I like the talent in our class but outside of a couple players, it is not Big 12 starting lineup talent.

$4.2M vs. $2M
Not a tough decision to make. He did a great job of laying the foundation here. Now let's go get another young/hungry OC/DC that wants a shot. Formula isn't complicated.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Agreed, while I will miss him if he leaves, Chad Morris hasn't done anything at SMU that an aggressive young staff couldn't do. Once we get to 10+ win seasons then you can start judging how great a coach he really is. For now we need to build our talent base as that alone will win us 7-8 games in this conference. If we are struggling to fund our IPF, there is no need to overpay for a head coach at this juncture.

I agree. Many would be just fillers, but Chad could sell them. And we lose Brewer.

No more punts inside the opponents 35. That's a positive.

It's the sad reality of SMU in an eternal catch-22. We can never be a P5 team due to not having great attendance and putting a solid product out and we can't get a coach to do that because if he's on track he will get poached by another team...
