Sutton named Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Player of the Week

TYLER, Texas – SMU wide receiver Courtland Sutton has been named The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for the twelfth week of the college football season.

The sophomore wide receiver set a school record for receiving yards in a game with 252 yards and two touchdowns on a career-high 13 receptions in a 35-27 loss to USF. It was Sutton’s fifth 100-yard game of the season and eighth of his career. 

This season, Sutton has 70 receptions for 1,186 yards and his 107.8 yards per game, which currently ranks 10th in the country. After Sutton’s performance against the Bulls, he became just the ninth Mustang to register 1,000 yards in a season which ranks third at SMU. He now has 2,075 career receiving yards, which is ninth in program history and holds both the freshman and sophomore single-season receiving yards record. Sutton has nine TDs this season and 18 for his career, which moves him into sixth place in school history.

Courtland Sutton is a graduate of Brenham High School, Brenham, Texas.

THE EARL CAMPBELL TYLER ROSE AWARD
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, recognizes the top offensive player in Division 1 football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.

In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year D1 Texas college.
