Failure Ranking: 2014 UNT vs 2016 Navy Game Plan

Postby Digetydog » Sun Nov 27, 2016 8:41 am

On the one hand, June Jones quit on the sidelines against UNT after failing to have a game plan.

On the other hand, Navy scored touchdowns on 11 straight possessions (including their scrubs) while Morris/Malone failed to make any scheme changes.

2014 because UNT was lousy that year.

Terrible game, but losing to UNT was way worse. Plus our coach at least cares this year.

UNT was by far the worst because there should never be a season we lose to them.

Seriously? There is NO comparison.

We got worn out and then blown out by the #25 team in the country who has kicked our butts forever. Trying to make Chad out to be a bad coach on this forum is ridiculous.

Sometimes good coaches have bad plans. After 6 maybe 7 touchdowns, maybe it might be a good idea to try something different. Navy had more TD's than 3rd downs. (Of course, they went 7 for 8 on 3rd down)

A little credit to VM for at least trying - he changed from the 4-2-5 scheme to try and do something more aggressive.

However, when it was clear that the new scheme wasn't working, the lack of adjustment was noticeable.

While I have never seen a 6-1-4 used to defend the option, i don't have a problem with him trying to innovate.

But, they scored on every possession in the first half. Then, they made adjustments and scored faster in the second half. We never even tried to change.

Scheme, planning, innovation, adjustments

The Navy second and third stringers were just as successful as the first string. How is that even possible?

They were literally laughing on the sideline.

Love Chad, agree June quit, agree UNT sucked that year. Agree Navy was ranked this week. But 75 points = DDFT. PM me for the translation if interested, but it's not good. 41 unanswered. Like someone somewhere said, last three home losses by 100+ can't happen, period.

June quit many months before the 2014 UNT game. Van Malone quit on the morning of the 2016 Navy game as evidenced by his tweet.

strong assertion which is hard to disagree with.

Question is...is it possible to put the cat back into the bag?

IMO no - if Chad decides to stay Malone has to go

was just thinking of that...which is unfortunate. Malone winds up collateral damage to Chad's dalliance w/ Baylor

y'all may be too sensitive to be college football fans. Of course Malone can stay. Everyone gets over it and they get back to work. they put up 8 wins next year and they have much better choices, and we may have an assistant by then who can step in - or at least a better platform for the next guy.
