Bottom line in all of this is that SMU is a stepping stone job...not a destination job...for ANYONE!. I think most of us understand that and just want to get as much mileage out of a good thing as we can. I also think you have to give H.S. kids enough credit to know if is highly unlikely in today's world that they are going to have the same coaches for the 3-5 years they might attend a given school.

I bet Chad's sticking point wasn't salary. $4.9 is top tier and 2x his SMU deal. I bet the striking point was buyout if BU got hit with certain sanctions, no buy out to TAMU, and who his coordinators would be.

If the list we see in this thread are the other candidates then BU is in trouble. Fedora and McIntyre would have to be crazy and Dykes isn't going to get it done at BU. Chad is far and away the better candidate compared to Dykes .

since chad is still negotiating I think it would be fitting for us to start interviewing coaching candidates. maybe we should tell chad that if we find a person who is as good or better and will take less money we may have to let him go.
In short, we need him to make a solid and public commitment that he is staying or that he wishes to continue his bargaining with rape-u.

I don't doubt that Chad wants the Baylor deal on "his terms" and I think when all is said and done, he just might be in a position to get what he wants from them. As this coaching search drags on, Baylor is going to realize they don't have as much going for them as they might think they do.

I would certainly hope that Hart is somewhere behind the curtain doing his research on who will be SMU's "next man up" because this ain't over until Baylor names it's coach.

I'd bet all of this is being fed from the Baylor side. It's all they've got. They are standing on i35 with their thumbs out throwing cash around. They can't offer stability or internal support.

Disagree - see basketball. I think Larry is regretting leaving.

If there were a NFL or P5 coach that already has the $$, loves working with kids and developing coordinators, and looking for stability at the end of their career, this would be something other than a stepping stone job. Especially if there were ties to the area and/or the program. Think if James or Dickerson went into coaching and had success and $$ from playing/coaching. Beasley 2045?

and of course all these other potential candidates could be a ploy by rape-U to make chad feel that he is really not in the drivers seat and perhaps get him to be a little more 'reasonable' in his demands.

June Jones for Gang Rape U's next coach? He could stand to pad the retirement fund just a little bit more and wouldn't really give a [deleted] if his team was successful or not.

I think Baylor is blowing smoke and nothing more.

Morris is playing hardball with them and why not? I bet they cave to Morris,
the bigger question is whether SMU can keep him.

If Morris is truly available to Baylor then they really need to get this deal done, because
they are not getting those other names. He is the best guy they could hope for.

I still want a peek at what is behind current #1 for SMU.

we need to come to a decision quickly. If chad goes to rape-U and takes a bunch of our recruits then our new coach needs to hit the road running in order for us to have a decent class.

Could it be the same person UH is going for?
