CBS: New Names Surface in Baylor Coaching Search

In our last major update in that search, 247Sports was told by multiple industry sources that the school had then-Houston coach Tom Herman and SMU coach Chad Morris at the top of its list.

Since then, Herman took the Texas job and Morris’ SMU team allowed 75 points to Navy, falling a game short of automatic bowl qualification.

We were told Sunday by those close to the search that Baylor and Morris are moving on. Sources said the once-promising negotiations hit a snag along the way for two reasons: Morris’ desire for another in-state job driving the price tag - and, on Baylor’s end, it was a price and a coaching prospect that suddenly seemed less palatable after watching Navy score 10 offensive touchdowns on 10 possessions against the Mustangs. (Navy also had a pick 6 to get to 75 points.)

With Morris most likely out, the names we’re hearing most often are North Carolina’s Larry Fedora, Colorado’s Mike MacIntyre and Cal’s Sonny Dykes.

Ironic that a 75 point shellacking saved us our coach rather than costing him his current job.

Funny that so many people said the 75 point debacle wouldn't be factored in the Baylor decision. Looks like it did at least in some fashion.

Thanks Navy.

I'd like to thank the SMU football team for all their help on this one. What a giant SNAFU coach Chad. Man oh man .

Now you're stuck with us and we're stuck with you stinks just a little bit.

We aren't stuck with him if he stays. He is the quickest way to a nice bowl game and better football program footing assuming we stay on track.

He also isn't stuck with us if he stays. Great place for his family - a big raise no doubt, a clearer picture on the IPF and a chance to prove he is for real.

If he leaves we will be fine, but I hope he stays since it is the fastest and most sure line to success.

Apparently as someone put on the board the coaches are trying to get 10 wins so they can get the heck oust of here next year if he stays. But if they don't win 10 games then they could be stuck here longer than they want. But if he signs Baylor for 24.5 million then he and his family are set for life and he does not have to gamble on next year. I guess it is something to think about.

So you don't think he is already set for life with what he has already received and with the $$
SMU has offered?

I guess I need to up my game

Baylor is either full of crap or they are just plain stupid if the 75 points to Navy sank this ship.

Or both.

Even Notre Dame never forced Navy to punt.

and SMU was clearly overmatched and distracted.

$2.5M/yr will only take you so far these days... especially when you've been making a meager $500,000 a year before hand ...ya just can't save!

How about if I said even more set for life. And he will be about to call the shots at Baylor more than he can here. Also Baylor is not an unfounded program like SMU. If Penn St can comeback so can Baylor. Now if Fedora goes to Baylor from .UNCLE then that would somewhat surprise me.

$2.5M in Highland Park puts you near the poverty line.

It used to be if you had 4 mill you could stick in a a lousy CD and make 6% on them as long as you weren't High Rollin you could pretty much do anything you wanted forever. Not

To think a guy like Chad could live on 4 million dollars for the rest of his life is a joke. Don't forget the government gets half of every check.

Now that I think about it he should have taken BU for 20 million and no 12th man Claus. Of course that would have been the Santa Claus mofos. Lmao

How does the government get half of every check if the maximum tax rate is only 39.6% and he only pays payroll tax on the first 2% or so.
