Those are pipe dreams. P5 head coaches rarely move down, especially those caliber names.

We either steal a HC from another G5 or tap a young, up and comer Coordinator.

Only a "failed" P5 coach would even consider this job...as a way of rebuilding his career and landing another P5 gig. Got to go where the money is...don't most of us?

Charlie Strong, Les Miles, Lane Kiffin, and Steve Sarkisian qualify as "failed" P5 coaches.

True, but those guys will wait to see if they get P5 jobs before accepting that they may have to prove themselves all over again at the G5 level. Charlie and Les have the luxury of sitting one year out (if nothig attractive is offered right away) and doing some research before jumping back into the pool.

it now looks like Chad is staying another year...but I would think Tulsa's Philip Montgomery would be one our targets if Chad does indeed jump ship.

Monty would be great. I would think it is a good job for him also - although he is more small town than big town so he may not love the SMU bling. He is actually one of the few guys that might prefer Waco to Dallas.

Yes he does.

I think if they win their bowl game Tulsa will have had a 10 win season.

Montgomery is from the metroplex.

There are certainly a myriad of names that would likely express interest in this job. Those G5 and FBS coaches with rising stock who want a payday and possible step to P5 land, as well as senior coordinators. This is not 2014. This team has potential and any new coach will know that they will have a solid shot next season if they can keep the majority of the recruiting class together. And...they'll get paid very well.
