Let's just win the first game next season, then we will worry about the next one. This team is way too young to look past the next practice. Like everyone, I'm hoping for success for the football program and success can be defined many different ways.

Mustangs Knock Off No. 19 Arkansas, 4-3
Head Coach Carl Neufeld Earns 400th Win At SMU

Jan. 20, 2017

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (SMU)— The SMU men's tennis team beat No. 19 Arkansas, 4-3, Friday night at Dills Indoor Tennis Center. Ronald Slobodchikov beat the No. 3 ranked singles player in the country to seal the Mustangs' victory and earn head coach Carl Neufeld his 400th win at SMU.

"I'm just really excited for the guys," Neufeld said. "It really was an incredible win and even more exciting that we beat the No. 3 singles player to win it. Out of the 400, this has to be one of the top, definitely in the top ten. The team fought so hard."

We have one of the nicest Tennis facilities in the world. Men are currently ranked #21, Women not ranked in Top 25. When does this change?

Men's olympic sports are easy to dominate because there are far fewer teams than women. For example we are aac men's swimming heroes cause the aac only has 4 men's teams. Women tennis gets double the scholarships as the men.

So basically women's sports are like football (get 2 baller players and you might still suck) and men's sports are like basketball (get 2 baller players and you crush people). This is a sweeping generalization but it's how it works.

In conclusion, women's sports are way harder / more competitive than men's olympic sports.

To support the Tennis team and their coach, most of these players had to camp out at numerous high school courts just to practice or hold a meet until they finally had access to the facility ( I believe last year). Not exactly conducive to successful recruiting. Like football, some of these early recruits never even got to play in the facility. The Tennis facility was years in coming, considering that the old one was destroyed in the first stage of preparing Moody for remodeling. Cost overruns, delays and budget(?) over runs and this thing became the golden goose for our friends in the construction industry. I doubt our coaches were even involved in the project. I do know they are not responsible for booking tournaments, etc.

By the way, we were the only non-P-5 to make the Sweet 16 last year, so they are making progress.

Neufeld has quietly been possibly the best coach SMU has had over the past two decades - I can remember him being on campus with a top 10 team in the mid '90's and apparently that hasn't changed much. That tennis facility went to a coach and program that actually earned it, minor Olympic sport or not.

The donors to the Tennis facility were in large part well known Dallas/SMU Tennis oriented donors for many decades including many who actually played or had relatives play on the SMU Tennis team.

I take exception to your theory that women's sports are harder and more competitive than men's Olympic sports. If you take the time to look at the men's Olympic sports you will find that every college has become the recruiting and training ground for the best athletes from through out the world in both the women's and men's sports. Look no further than the SMU swim team, tennis team and recent basketball teams as men's examples. In women's sports look at the current track, swimming, tennis and basketball teams. Many of the top programs in the country in various sports are totally stacked with foreign students.
