No. If we beat TCU we could be 3-0 including 2 weak links. We might move from 107 up to the 80s. Then, Arkansas State has bowled the last 5 or 6 years and handled us easily the last time we played, so I do not see 5-0 yet. Hoping for it, but if we do get to 5-0 I would think we might get a few votes.

I agree; for total lack of attendance.

With this schedule HCCM has got to get us to 8-4. With so many unknowns, e.g. who's our QB, how does the O-line progress, does anyone step-up at LB, can the secondary replace the seniors, etc., you couldn't even start predicting if this is realistic, but in year 3 with this schedule 8 wins is what needs to happen to keep the program moving in the right direction.

It would be helpful when we are recruiting a new coach after Morris bolts next year

UCF nov 4 my guess. 23/30 September will be parents weekend.

Confirmed:
FAMILY WEEKEND - Sep 23 - Ark State
HOMECOMING - Nov 4 - UCF

If we are good enough to win @TCU, we are going to be good enough to go 5-0 with blowouts and that is why I think we will be ranked or on the verge of it.

Let's just win and not worry about rankings

Remember we also had a weak home schedule when we previously broke a streak of not bowling: 2009

SFA
ECU
Navy
Rice
UTEP
Tulane

7-5 does not get anyone excited; boosters, general fan base, recruits, high school coaches, etc. I look at this year's recruiting class and the guys we lost to other schools (not including the LT boys) and I believe a big part of it is due to continued on-field struggles, not just the W/L total, but the blow-outs to Memphis and Navy and additionally HCCM flirting with Baylor. To regain the momentum he started off here with I think he has to get 8 wins.

Again not saying this is necessarily realistic with all the unknowns we have on the roster and I know we need to do more to get better recruits in....IPF, football only workout facility, etc...but I think 8 wins and no really bad blow-outs to similarly placed competition is what it is going to take. 6 or 7 wins and no marquee upsets (which could only be TCU with this schedule) and it does little to move the program forward. We should have had 6 wins this past year when you look back at the Tulsa game.

Nonsense-perhaps you don't understand what keeping the program headed in the right direction means

Ron Meyer
3-8
4-7
4-6-1
5-6
8-4
10-1
11-0-1

At 7-5 Chad Morris would be one of the hottest Coaching prospects in the Country-by winning 7 in third year after a total rebuild. At 6-6 and a Bowl SMU would get plenty of attention for heading to a Bowl. Some of you don't understand how this works. Nobody that truly understands that SMU is in the 2d year of a rebuild on Defense would EXPECT SMU to win 8 games this year. You'll see when more predictions start coming out that only the few on this board EXPECT SMU to win 8 games-nobody else does.

To quote a long-gone poster, "no expectation" except effort. We will be bowl eligible this year. Anything more would be gravy

Agree that year over year progress is what we are looking for so 6-6 and a bowl game keeps this program moving in the right direction. Winning a bowl game and finishing with a winning record is definitely a plus to my way of thinking. Those who think our schedule is so soft need to be reminded that we still play TCU and that Arky State has had a winning program for years now so doing better than 2-2 in non-conference will be an accomplishment. Considering we still have to face Navy, Memphis, Houston, Tulsa & UCF (all went bowling last year), going .500 in conference will not be an easy task. Just hoping we see year over year progress...

Too many uncertainties at key positions to expect more than 5 wins. Next year is the turning point for this program. In the interim, we will see what happens with recruiting as the 2017 kids provided some key position depth, but only as as red shirts and weight room work available in 2018. Most of the class; however, will not substantially enhance the depth and talent levels needed to progress.
